SeaWorld’s Howl-O-Scream Orlando is a fantastic spooky date night

For those looking for a date night this Halloween season, the SeaWorld Orlando offering, Howl-O-Scream Orlando, could be great for you. Lower prices than their competition, but still offering a wide array of entertainment, this event has spooks, scares, shows, haunted houses, rides, themed drinks and more to make for a fun date night.

The Orlando date night essentials

When planning out a date night, you look for some essentials: food, drinks, a spot to hang out and entertainment. This combo can be found all over Central Florida. But, for the price, Howl-O-Scream Orlando packs in a lot. As of the writing of this article, tickets to visit Howl-O-Scream Orlando are $46, or $30 for Passholders. There is also a $99.99 Two Park Pass that gives you unlimited admission to the Howl-O-Scream offerings in Orlando and Tampa. But, for this article, lets base it off of the standard $46 ticket.

Price comparison to other Orlando offerings

This $46 price will get you into the event which has no additional paywalls for experiences. All haunted houses, shows and ride are offered for that price. But, there are extras such as the VIP Terror Tour, Front Line Fear passes and a Sampling Lanyard (more on that later) if you wish to upgrade your visit.

For $46, we are already well below the price range of Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. $46 is more money that other local haunts such as Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail or Scream-A-Geddon. These local offerings do have unique houses and fun entertainment, but they do not offer roller coasters. For about $15~ more, Howl-O-Scream Orlando can offer rides on top of their haunted houses, scare zones and shows.

This isn’t an ad, nor an attack on local haunts, I love to visit them all. But, the cause for this article is the sweet-spot of pricing that I believe Howl-O-Scream Orlando offers for the date night or haunt visit for fans. Maybe you aren’t a huge Halloween fan or don’t want to visit a house built-to-the-extreme. Howl-O-Scream Orlando gives those options of:

  • Roller coasters in the dark
  • Halloween inspired musical performance
  • Themed scare areas
  • Themed bars
  • Haunted houses
  • Roaming characters
  • Circus acts
  • A cheaper ticket than a daily visit to SeaWorld Orlando

Maximize your dollar at Howl-O-Scream Orlando

If you already a SeaWorld Orlando Passholder, the deals are almost too good. You already get free parking and now you get a ticket for $30. Plus, Passholders can get free Front Line Fear passes just for visiting SeaWorld Orlando. But, for everyone else…

There are ways to maximize your dollar. Because an affordable date doesn’t have to be a cheap one. If food and drinks are a big part of your plan, you may want to look into the Tasting Lanyards. These allow you to pre-pay for food and drinks items and get a discount from it. The bars at Howl-O-Scream Orlando are really well themed, even the bartenders are transformed for this experience. I think this is something that makes them stand out in the area. From cocktails to themed food items, you can get a “Halloween foodie experience.” This year, the new Scorchline bar even has its own show, Scorchline – Deadly Rhythm.

While a majority of the event nights are Friday through Sunday, there are select dates available on other days of the week. This is where you get the most bang-for-your-buck. Visiting on Sundays, at opening on Fridays or during mid-week days will give you: less crowds, shorter waits, quicker walk-ups to the bar and more haunted house experiences per hour. I visited during a Thursday last year and was met with wait times under 30 minutes for everything. While not empty, the park offerings were easily achievable in a single night.

Planning the spooky date night

Maybe you aren’t a Type A dater, you don’t need to do every single house, scare zone, bar, ride and experience. What should be “the plan?” As an avid theme park fan who visits way too often, this is what I would do:

  • Figure out the top 5 “must-dos”
  • Decide if you plan on staying all night or set some specific hours
  • VISIT MONSTER STOMP, seriously everyone seems to love this show
  • Figure out if you and your date want to ride on rides, if so, check those out before the themed bars
  • Give yourself time to roam, the scare zones are awesome and you may stumble upon houses with short waits

Chances are you aren’t getting a drink at every single bar, if so you may begin walking like the zombies around the park. Instead, some haunted areas of the park have a scare zone, bar and haunted house all in one spot (like my personal favorite, the Farm 51 haunted house that ends near a bar themed to the haunted house). The park itself will be setup like one big circle. If you arrive close to opening, look to see where the crowd goes. If everyone goes right, go left, sometimes shorter waits are as simple as that.

Tickets, passes, upgrades and more at Howl-O-Scream Orlando

Personally, I don’t think you need a Front Line Fear pass. I have visited this event every single year since its debut in 2021. It is an optional upgrade which can make lines shorter, but in my experience it isn’t needed. I am ok with waiting 20 minutes to save money to spend on food or merchandise instead. If you despise crowds and waiting, then a Front Line Fear or VIP Tour may be the option for you.

There are a lot of ticket options as well, from a set night to an Any Night ticket, a season pass and even group rates. If this idea of a date night sounds good, but you aren’t yet sure when to go, the $65 Any Night ticket may work for you. Outside of some busier Friday or Saturday nights, and the few days leading up to Halloween itself, I have rarely seen it 100% sell out. But, this ticket could be a good option if you want to secure a ticket and choose later.

In Central Florida Halloween has essentially begun and we aren’t slowing down until October 31st. No matter which location you choose for your next night out, make it a spooky and fun one.
