There is a reason Zion National Park is so famous and the Angels Landing Trail is certainly part of that fame. An uphill hike will reward you with wide sweeping views into the heart of natural beauty. Be prepped, this is considered a Hard Trail as per the All Trails app, so you will want to arrive in good shoes and a relatively healthy physique. The Angels Landing Trail is also part of the West Rim Trail with a 360º view at Scout Lookout.
If you are looking for a hike that makes you feel like that song above, this is it. Angels Landing offers miles of trail with a truly cinematic finale, overlooking grand vistas in Zion National Park. At nearly 5 miles long, out and back, this trail will require a lot of uphill steps. In exchange, it offers numerous places to rest and take in the scenery.



Be warned, this trail is not for those afraid of heights. There are steep drop-off and unguarded cliffs, not being careful could potentially be life threatening. Hikers are warned to give extra caution around edges, stay in the center of the path and give extra time during poor weather circumstances.
The Angels Landing Trail is 4.7 miles long and has an elevation gain of 1,738 feet. To complete the entirety of the Angels Landing Trail you will need to apply for a permit. The final portion of the trail must be monitored to avoid overcrowding. A reservation and lottery system are used to keep pathways safer.
Make a plan for Zion National Park
There are numerous hiking options in Zion National Park, you will want to make a plan. The West Rim and Angels Landing Trail are some of the most popular locations. Arriving as early as possible is highly recommended to avoid extreme sun, heat and crowds. Scout Lookout does not need a permit, but to fully access Angels Landing a permit is required. Visitors using the park shuttle do not need a permit or reservation. Visitors entering the park do not need a reservation, but do need to pay the park fee.
