Monstropolis “The City Frightful” logo, a play on Orlando’s “The City Beautiful,” has been revealed by the Disney Parks Blog. Disney has also revealed the basis storyline for humans first major visitation into Monstropolis, and that is thanks to the H.R. Department, but not the one you are probably thinking of. On its way to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a walkable city of monsters, laughs, meals and two big attraction investments.
I was invited out by Walt Disney Imagineering to step foot into Monstropolis a few weeks ago and I have been eager to share my thoughts ever since. Thanks to new info shared by the Disney Parks Blog, the end of an embargo and these very helpful aerial construction photos by Bioreconstruct on X, I can give you a look into one really monstrous new offering.

Where and what will be in Monstropolis
There are a lot of arrows above, but there is also a lot of key things to point out in just this single image. The Yellow Arrow is where we were able to stand for our media visit, it gave us a full view of the land from the eventual entrance at the Red Arrow down to the major roller coaster construction farther down towards the Blue Arrow. At the Yellow Arrow was formerly PizzeRizzo and before that it was the Pizza Planet. Standing on the open-air second floor platform of this space offered one thing you can’t always get from aerial photos and that is proportional scale.
If you remember the former space of Grand Avenue (many referred to it until its last day as Muppets Courtyard), it felt like a large enough space. It has shops that were sometimes open, two eateries and MuppetVision 3-D, but it never felt huge. Most of this space was a re-use of some of the Streets of America land combined with a Muppets overlay. It served its purpose to house the Muppets, but it also felt like a bit of a dead-end unless you were exiting out of MuppetVision 3-D. Standing on the second floor there was a very noticeable change that I felt completely reworked how the space felt. That change was the demolition of the Stage 1 Company Store (also known as the Muppet Studios Store).
The demolition of this singular building made the entire space feel so much bigger. From the tight street corners where a Christmas shop and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano once felt like spots to discover, this wide space now felt like an entirely new area. The facades on the structures all around me were mostly the same, outside of the dirt and scaffolding, but the feeling of this newly opened area instantly was different. A major, monster city center was suddenly more believable when you could look around and imagine the scale. That was amplified by the expansion towards the new coaster.

Making an existing Disney theme park land feel all new
The Stage 1 Company Store took up a substantial amount of this area of Grand Avenue and with its demolition the entire courtyard area feels so much more open. But the land doesn’t just feel bigger, it is getting much bigger thanks to Cast Member (employee) parking and one very big show building.
The city of Monstropolis isn’t just a re-theme to the existing space, it is requiring some major demolition, construction and investment. In fact, the Glob Theater, formerly MuppetVision 3-D, is getting much more than just a switch over to the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor. The Imagineering team didn’t provide exact story details, but they did say that this new show for the space will be one of the most technologically advanced productions that Disney has ever worked on.

Monstropolis adds on to Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The most noticeable thing to see when looking at the concept art and construction imagery is how big and far back the Monsters Inc factory is from the previous space. This was made even more obvious when standing in the active construction. That coaster construction is not even close to where the end of the park used to be, and I mean that in a very good way. Grand Avenue never felt big, it was like a set of small city streets as you turned corners and went into closed-off, private areas. It had its own charm and plenty of Muppets details spread around. Monstropolis is going to feel so different!
This land will feature “the dramatic turn reveal,” much you like get looking down Main Street U.S.A. towards Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park or turning to see the Millennium Falcon at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Due to the location of the Monsters Inc Door Coaster show building, a majority of that space cannot be seen from the main walkways of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It will provide a WOW moment for fans to see the Monsters Inc factory in large-scale.

The Monsters Inc Door Coaster will be a huge addition for scale, immersion and capacity
The Monsters Inc Door Coaster is something that fans have dreamt of ever since the “Monsters Inc.” film came out in 2001. This suspended coaster will be a first for Disney Parks worldwide. It will add thrill to the park, an indoor option during bad weather and tons of rider capacity. In fact, Walt Disney Imagineering revealed a first look at the animatic of the load room. This load area will be able to handle up to four trains at a single time, that means more riders and less delays from slower guest operations.
And again, scale is so important. Look at the image above, that arrow is pointing at a human being. This is no small structure being put into place. This attraction has a lot more work ahead of it, but the concrete floor slab already gives away a majority of its overall size. While we can see some steel go up, we will have to wait and see if Disney fully covers this show building before major coaster track installation begins. We might have to wait and see the track once the ride is open and ready for operation.
Even if you aren’t a big Monsters Inc. fan, this new Monstropolis land will be a big assist to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. From just what we know so far it will re-introduce indoor dining spaces, a large, indoor theater and it will add a high-capacity roller coaster. All of these will be unaffected by bad weather, so the Florida rainy season won’t stop these people-eaters. That means a more spread-out crowd, extra options during a day visit and less angry guests during a lightning storm.

Disney is adding H.R. to Disney’s Hollywood Studios
When you think of a fun day at a theme park, I assume you never also think of a meeting with H.R. Well, that is about to change with the Department of Human Relations and their H.U.M.A.N. Day plan for Monstropolis. H.U.M.A.N. Day stands for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice” and its the basis for why we are now welcomed into this city of Monsters. According to the Disney Parks Blog, “Part celebration, part cultural exchange, the event is designed to introduce humans to life inside Monstropolis while helping monsters discover that humans are not so frightening after all.”
As you walk around the land you will see monsters and human workers (Disney Cast Members) all together living and thriving in this city of Monstropolis. Imagineers didn’t give exact details on how monster interactions will come to life, but I strongly assume we will get a version of screen, puppet and animatronic life like we see in Zootopia at Shanghai Disneyland. The upcoming D23: The Ultimate Fan Event in August should give us additional insight into this space.
Yes, Harryhausen’s will be a part of Monstropolis, but will we get monster-fied sushi?
Disney Parks Blog shares, “Storefronts line the streets, industries hum alongside everyday life, and every corner reflects the quirky, character-filled world fans fell in love with. And of course, it wouldn’t be Monstropolis without a few iconic stops along the way. Places like Harryhausen’s — yes, THAT legendary restaurant monsters line up for — and the Glob Theater help bring the city to life, adding even more personality, energy, and can’t-miss moments around every corner.”
First off, while it was expected with the initial concept art, it is great to know that Harryhausen’s is officially going to be a destination to dine at when Monstropolis opens. As expected with Disney’s Culinary Team, this will probably be more than just a sushi spot. Between the theming and some whimsical additions to the menu, I am hopeful this can be a pan-Asian destination that serves both authentic options and monstrous creations. We will have to wait and see how that eatery ends up. But, I can share that a very large pair of chopsticks are on the way to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In this image captured by Bioreconstruct, you can still see the remnants of Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. But this space is being transformed into the iconic sushi destination, complete with the oversized eyeball and chopsticks at the entrance. The day those make it into the construction, I can assume they won’t be able to be missed, even with the construction walls currently hiding the view from day guests.
Disney has already made a lot of progress since the end of 2025, but their work is far from complete. Fans will have to stay tuned as Walt Disney Imagineering is working step-by-step to bring the world of “Monsters Inc.” into our human world at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
