I had a thought, that thought was correct. Disney has just confirmed that Walt Disney World and Shanghai Disneyland are both getting a TRON ARES overlay to their TRON Lightcycle roller coasters. This update will take effect in just a few weeks and will include music and lighting changes.
To be fair, I had no insider information. I am just a theme park fan who loves the TRON series and knows the power of corporate synergy. But, either way, you can expect to ride along with Nine Inch Nails music as the Upload Conduit (the ride’s color-changing roof) and the Lightcycles (the motorcycle style ride vehicles) change color to match this upcoming film.
TRON Lightcycle / Run: Ares Edition begins September 15
“Replacing the blue and orange hues of the ride, you’ll weave through twisting tunnels of vibrant red and orange light trails, feeling the rush of wind and the surge of acceleration as you compete in a dazzling Lightcycle race,” states Rain Blanken, Editorial Optimization Manager for Disney Parks Blog.
While the TRON: Ares film debuts October 10, you will be able to race on the grid with Ares as of September 15 at Walt Disney World and September 16 at Shanghai Disneyland. Disney states that this overlay is for a limited time, but does not express for how long this will be offered. Looking back at past overlays, I expect this offering to be at the parks for a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year – but as we all know, nothing is confirmed until Disney confirms it.
