LEGOLAND has just completed a $90,000,000 investment at their Florida and California parks. In my opinion, it was worth it. The new Galacticoaster hits all the marks needed for these kid-friendly theme parks, offering thrill, fun, energy and more indoor experiences. With a height requirement of only 36 inches, this new roller coaster is sure to be a “first big ride” for many young visitors.
The Galacticoaster isn’t just a ride, its a full experience, complete with a pre-show, a rocket design area, a toddler friendly outdoor play space, photo-ops and of course the roller coaster itself. The ride is smooth, vibrantly colorful and offers a truly LEGO storyline based in whimsy and wacky moments. The new area even has throwbacks for the old school LEGO fans who fell in love with the original space themed LEGO sets.
Galacticoaster at LEGOLAND Florida
Kids just 36 inches tall can ride on Galacticoaster when accompanied by an adult. Throughout your experience you will meet an animatronic LEGO figure, Biff Dipper, who explains that the LEGO Galaxy must be saved! Don’t worry, there is a plan, even if it involves a wild experience. In true LEGOLAND park fashion, this pre-show room offers easily accessible view areas so everyone feels involved. Alongside the animatronic, screens are available on the walls and on the ceiling, you cannot miss the action.
Future astronauts are guided to a rocket design area where over 600 possible designs can be made. You will end up seeing this rocket design during the ride, so build something fun, wacky and even a bit outrageous (you can add a cheeseburger design as your “wings”). During the design and load process, guests will be handed a themed wrist strap, which helps track and place you with your correct rocket design.

An “out of this world” experience
Galacticoaster begins with a 40 mph launch, sending riders into “space” with dazzling lights and figures all around. The ride experience is most closely related to that of Walt Disney World’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Onboard audio, combined with space-themed visuals and a vehicle that can spin in pre-determined locations creates an experience that is fun and thrilling without being too much for younger guests.
In total, each coaster train can hold eight guests with four per vehicle. The load experience is easy, with a moving platform following vehicles as guests board their sections. Each seat has its own lap restraint and select seats are built for transfer-boarding from a wheelchair. The ride lasts a little longer than a minute with time spent seeing your designed rocket and launching into the show building. For the age range, this felt like the right amount of time and thrill.
