How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk at Universal Epic Universe

Universal Creative and the Universal Orlando Team have revealed a ton of new information about the How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk land at Universal Epic Universe. This will be one of the largest areas in the entire park and will offer five exciting experiences, three eateries, dragon meets and even more adventure.

Isle of Berk opens 2025 in Orlando, Florida

One of five new lands coming to Universal Epic Universe, How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk is slated to open around Summer 2025. Here, guests will see what it’s like to live amongst dragons as they explore a larger-than-life world that includes new attractions, beloved character meet-and-greets, dining, shopping and even flying dragons. This land is based on DreamWorks Animation’s multi-award winning and Academy Award-nominated trilogy, “How to Train Your Dragon.”

Isle of Berk is set to be an authentic re-creation of the rugged, rocky world where Vikings and dragons live together in harmony. Guests visiting Berk will encounter immense architecture features such as hand-carved details, lush landscaping and vibrant dragon houses. This land will feature dragons in their natural habitats and sheep attempting to disguise themselves. There will even be spouts of fire throughout the land.

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders roller coaster

This land will feature a family friendly coaster that is built into the very landscape. With a height requirement of only 40 inches, this new coaster will allow tons of children to ride along. In fact, at that height, this may be many kids first major coaster ride.

Featuring water effects, dives under guest bridges and a launch, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders will be one of the most thrilling rides inside the How To Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk land. That isn’t the only thrill ride coming to this area of Universal Epic Universe though.

Dragon Racer’s Rally thrill ride

Dragon Racer’s Rally will be the second thrill ride in the Isle of Berk. This attraction will be a ride-first for Universal Destinations & Resorts. Guests will be placed in suspended ride vehicles as they turn, flip and dive over this park. The height requirement of 48 inches may give an idea of the speed and thrill you can expect on this attraction.

You can see a very similar version of this ride at the Mall of America. At Universal Epic Universe, two of these attractions will be lined up to double capacity. The dragon theming and massive size should also add lots of energy to this area of the park.

Fyre Drill interactive water ride

Florida gets hot, and therefore so will this How To Train Your Dragon area at Universal Epic Universe. Fyre Drill is a story driven attraction, where guests are trained to help put out accidental dragon fires. Guests will compete to douse the most amount of targets in water. And, while doing so, riders will get very wet themselves.

This attraction will have no minimum height requirement, but hand-held infants are now allowed. Viking twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut have transformed Berk’s Fyre Skööl into a watery, interactive boat battle at sea. This attraction will be seen throughout the Isle of Berk land.

The Untrainable Dragon broadway style show

The Untrainable Dragon show will be a large-scale broadway-esque production. A version of this show is currently playing daily at Universal Beijing Resort. Universal Orlando Resort and How To Train Your Dragon fans have been begging for this show to make it to the United States. Now a slightly modified version will be debuting at Universal Epic Universe in 2025.

This show is open to all, but Universal has warned that the production will include sudden and intense sound effects, theatrical lighting effects and performers in close proximity to the audience. For those that have experienced this show in Beijing, they stated it is a gorgeous, emotional experience.

Meet Toothless, Hiccup and other dragons

Guests can visit the Haddock Paddock for meet-and-greet experiences with Dragon Rider, Hiccup, and pose for a photo with his friendly Night Fury, Toothless. Plus, throughout the day, guests may also encounter other familiar Vikings and dragons while exploring Berk.

While not yet confirmed, strong rumors suggest that Universal Epic Universe will utilize drone technology and visual effects to bring dragons “to life” above Isle of Berk. We will need to wait and see, but Universal has been testing with drones at Universal Studios Florida. If true, we may see dragons, day and night, flying above us in this park.
