Today’s top rental, nostalgia. The Blockbuster Experience has debuted in the Orlando area at the Central Florida Fair. An online sensation overnight, this new offering is welcoming fans to come in and shop for a while.
This 90’s throwback offering cost just $3 and is made out of actual Blockbuster stores that closed down over the years. From the welcome table to massive signage, this is the real deal. While 99% of the stores have shut down, with one Oregon store remaining, this new experience hopes to reach the whole country – and bring back a bit of Blockbuster.
Nostalgic 90’s Blockbuster Experience
From the 90’s to the early 2000’s, Blockbuster held strong. It was the place to visit on Friday night, as you and the family grabbed the weekend movie. As streaming powered forward, these iconic blue and yellow stores began to fade away.
But now, you can step back in time. Grab your ticket and “welcome to Blockbuster.” Built as a traveling expedition, the Blockbuster Experience crew hopes to take this offering to fairs and conventions across the U.S. Inside, visitors are made honorary employees – complete with blue vests.

What to do at the Blockbuster Experience
You can do more than rent a film, in fact, you can’t actually rent movies from here. Instead, all movies showcased, VHS, DVD or BluRay, all cost $5, no matter what film or type. Snacks are also for sale, with candy beginning at $2.
Photo-ops are plentiful, from walls of movie selections to real Blockbuster memorabilia and signage. There is even a comfy, family couch near an older tv, ready for movie time photos. Not just a backdrop, visitors are welcome to take movies out and play them on the tv. In fact, there isn’t even a time limit. Anyone is welcome to come in from open to close.
You and your friends can go up-and-down the aisles, from comedy to horror, family to sci-fi. What older films are hidden in your memory, ready to be found? The Blockbuster Experience has 15,000 options to search through. I found a longtime favorite, Adam Sandler’s “Click.”

What can you buy at the Blockbuster Experience
The experience can include the purchase of films, real Blockbuster memorabilia, the most appalling candle you have ever smelled, candy, snacks and more. As mentioned, you can purchase the films you see, for $5.
You can even support the last ever Blockbuster by buying “Please be kind, rewind,” trucker hats, real membership cards, a signed DVD of “The Last Blockbuster,” shirts and even customizable employee name tags. These sales directly benefit the actual Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon. You can be sure that your patronage will keep it going.
That candle, it is meant to smell like popcorn. It does, but I have to mention it feels as if your nose is now full of butter and grease. It is both amazing and truly terrible. You have to take a big whiff when you visit.

Where is the Blockbuster Experience
For now, the Blockbuster Experience has debuted at the Central Florida Fair. But it won’t be there forever. This offering plans to move around from state-to-state. You can stay up to date by following along on Instagram. We can imagine this will be quite popular in comic conventions in years to come.
Go from old school movies to espresso martinis. Starbucks also has an experience center, the Seattle Starbucks Roastery Reserve.
